Servicing & Maintenance
An unserviced compressor costs more to run and fails at the worst time
Compressed air systems that run without regular maintenance cost more in energy, fail more often and create compliance risks you may not be aware of. Filters get blocked, separators degrade, belts wear and leaks develop. None of it is visible until the machine stops or your energy bill arrives.
J&J Air Systems offer planned maintenance contracts, PSSR 2000 statutory inspections and emergency breakdown support for compressed air systems of all types and all brands. We service CompAir, Hydrovane, Ingersoll Rand, Gardner Denver, Atlas Copco, Kaeser, Champion, BroomWade and many others – not just the equipment we have supplied.

Planned maintenance contracts
A planned maintenance contract gives you scheduled visits from our engineers at manufacturer-recommended intervals. We service your compressor, dryers and associated treatment equipment using genuine consumables, check the full system for leaks and developing faults, and leave you with a written service record. Contracts are tailored to your operating hours, criticality and budget.
What a planned maintenance visit includes
- Oil change and filter replacement (air filter, oil filter, oil separator)
- Belt inspection and replacement where required
- Cooler inspection and clean
- Valve and safety valve check
- Dryer service: filter replacements, dewpoint check, refrigerant check where applicable
- Condensate drain check and clean
- System leak check
- Operating pressure and temperature check against specification
- Full service report left on site
Contract customers get priority scheduling and access to our emergency callout service. For critical applications where downtime is not acceptable, we can discuss enhanced response arrangements.

PSSR 2000 statutory inspections
The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 require that pressure systems above certain thresholds are inspected at defined intervals by a competent person, operating under a written scheme of examination. Failure to comply can result in HSE prohibition notices, fines and invalidated insurance — and many businesses don’t realise their inspections have lapsed until something goes wrong.
We carry out PSSR 2000 inspections and provide the required written documentation. We can also advise on whether your system requires a written scheme, at what frequency inspections should occur, and what records you need to keep. If you have inherited a system and are not sure of its compliance status, contact us for an assessment.
Compressed air audits and leak detection
A system with no active leak detection programme typically loses 20 to 30% of its compressor output through leaks. Most of those leaks are inaudible without specialist equipment and many are in areas that receive little attention. We carry out audits using ultrasonic detection equipment, identifying and quantifying leaks, checking whether working pressure is set higher than your processes actually need, and assessing whether the compressor is correctly sized for current demand.
You receive a written report with findings prioritised by estimated waste, recommended actions and projected energy savings for each. For many customers the audit pays for itself within weeks of acting on the recommendations.
Emergency breakdown support
We carry a wide range of common spare parts for most major compressor brands and aim to respond to breakdowns as quickly as possible. For contract customers, emergency callouts are prioritised. For critical applications where any period without compressed air is unacceptable, hire compressors are available from £10 per day to keep you running while repairs are carried out.
If you are currently without a maintenance contract and have a breakdown, call us on 0800 027 8442. We will do our best to help regardless of whether we have a prior relationship with you.
Frequently asked questions
How often does my compressor need servicing?
It depends on the manufacturer, model and how hard the machine is working. Most rotary screw compressors require a service every 2,000 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Machines in dusty or hot environments may need more frequent attention. Piston compressors and specialist equipment have their own schedules. We will tell you what your specific machine requires when we survey it.
Do you service brands you haven’t supplied?
Yes. We service all major brands regardless of who supplied them, including CompAir, Atlas Copco, Ingersoll Rand, HPC, Kaeser, Gardner Denver, Hydrovane, Champion, BroomWade, Boge and others. We hold parts for most common makes and models.
What is PSSR 2000 and does it apply to my system?
The Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 apply to most fixed compressed air installations above a certain pressure-volume threshold. If you have a compressor with a receiver on site, it is likely your system falls within scope. We can assess your system and tell you exactly what is required, including whether a written scheme of examination is needed and how often inspections must take place.
What happens if my compressor can’t be repaired on the day?
If we cannot complete a repair on the first visit – for example if a part needs to be ordered – we will advise you clearly on lead times and keep you updated. For contract customers, we can arrange a hire compressor to maintain your air supply while the repair is completed. Hire units are available from £10 per day.
Will servicing affect my compressor warranty?
Servicing by a non-approved engineer using non-genuine parts can void your manufacturer warranty. Our engineers are trained to manufacturer standards and we use genuine approved consumables, so your warranty remains intact. If you are unsure about your warranty status, contact us and we will advise.
